From October 27-30, the Return International Film and Art Festival will take place for the second time at the mon ami cinema in Weimar with the support of the city of Weimar, the Thuringian State Chancellery and others.

Filmmakers* from over 85 countries are participating in the festival. From them, 32 films were selected within the framework of the festival’s question, which will be presented during the festival days.

The short films will be shown in the categories animation, feature film and documentary film in the cinema mon ami Weimar. A special aspect of the festival is that no themes are given, but rather a question, with the answer emerging from the works of the filmmakers themselves.

The question in 2022 is: What is home?

In addition to an fascinating international film program with contributions to the question “What is home?”, two workshops on film analysis and film production will also be offered from October 24-26, in cooperation with the ACC Gallery and the Film Initiative of the Bauhaus University Weimar as well as Nivre Film Studio GmbH. The workshops will be led by filmmaker Christian Koch, photographer and animator Tina Wagner and filmmaker Stefan Nacke.

From last year, a special exhibition will feature a selection of works from the fields of photography, illustration and drawing on the question ” What is our legacy to the future?”. The answers are closely related to this year’s festival question. The works will be on view for a month starting October 24 at the mon ami cinema in Weimar.

Our jurors this year are Ms. Anne Körnig, former director of the Back-Up Festival, employee at the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, the Film e.V. Jena and currently working at the Film Commission of the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM) at the Studiopark Kindermedienzentrum (KMZ) in Erfurt; Mr. Peter Zorn, producer from Halle (Saale), chairman and curator of the Werkleitz Gesellschaft e.V. and head of the PMMC and EMAP and freelance cultural producer; Mr. Andreas Nickel, actor, writer and director from Berlin.

On October 30, the award ceremony with live music will take place at the mon ami cinema. The winners in the fields of animation, feature film and documentary film will be chosen and the results of the workshops will be presented. Afterwards, there will be an after-show party at the youth and cultural center mon ami.

We look forward to an exciting festival week with you!
