Animation Production

Animation – Intercultural!
23-25 October– in Bauhaus University
Corporation with bigchild Entertainment weimar
RETURN - Animation workshop with Jessica Hüttig

Building Bridges Through Art

3D Character Modeling

Participants will learn how to create a 3D character from scratch, using basic geometric shapes to build the structure of the torso, head, and limbs. They will also develop the ability to refine these models into polished, stylized characters suitable for animation.

Texturing and Material Application

Participants will gain the skill of applying materials and textures to their 3D models, enhancing the visual detail and realism of the character. This includes learning how to use different surface properties and textures to give characters depth and personality.

Rendering and Presentation

By the end of the workshop, participants will know how to set up lighting, rendering, and presentation techniques to showcase their character models effectively. This includes understanding how to create a  final product with the appropriate lighting and camera settings for animation production.

Character Modeling & Texturing for Animation Production

Goal: Each participant should have completed a presentable 3D character model by the end of the course.

Target Audience: Beginners, basic Blender knowledge is an advantage.

Ideally, each participant should bring a character design they would like to create. Otherwise, I will provide some examples.

Day 1: Basics and Character Construction

  • Welcome and introduction to the workshop/participants

  • Introduction to 3D modeling software

  • Working with basic shapes: Using simple geometric shapes to create the basic structure of the character

  • First steps in character construction: Modeling the torso, head, and limbs, with a focus on simple, stylized proportions

  • Using reference images: Applying templates to shape the character's proportions

Day 2: Refinement and Details

  • Refining the character’s shape

  • Modeling the face and details

  • Creating clothing and accessories

Day 3: Materials, Textures, and Presentation

  • Introduction to materials and textures

  • Lighting and rendering

  • Conclusion and feedback
